It was not conducive to waking up at a reasonable hour to go to sleep around 3 am after another marathon Forensic Files viewing session. We are now into the serial murder DVD. Great stuff.
Anyway, we dragged ourselves into the still empty streets (it's still Sukkoth) and hiked for what seemed like miles until we finally found a cafe open, packed with tel aviv hipsters. And dogs (seems like Israelis share a love for their dogs with the Europeans). The food here, at least at the places C lets me eat, is simple, fresh, and wholesome. Not much on the menu fried, much less deep fried. Lots of great bakeries, and of course bagel shops. The food, and of course the young average age (20 something), may explain why everyone looks so thin and healthy (except for the plump tourists).
We blew the rest of the afternoon promenading down the beautiful tree-lined boulevards of central Tel Aviv. Lots of folks--and their dogs--out and about. Accidentally stumbled on another coffeeshop where C twisted my arm into eating an amazing, delicate confection consisting of pastry wrapped around a filling of dates and nuts, all covered in powdered sugar. I could have eaten 8 more...behind C's back.
Tried to book a guided tour of Jerusalem for tomorrow, hitting some spots to which I have not been, but that didn't work out. May try again on Saturday, meaning I have to scramble to try to find something to do tomorrow. Thinking I might drag C to a museum!
I depart in Sunday for Jordan for a few days, so hoping to get done all I need to in Tel Aviv, whatever that is.
